free-manure-sign If you were driving along and saw this sign what would you think? A pile of manure or gold? It’s all in the eye of the beholder. Are you the kind of person that sees something like this and thinks… huh… I wonder what I could create from that? Most likely you probably think I’m nuts for asking that.

Well… once there was a man who did stop and saw gold in a big pile of manure. He asked around and ended up meeting a contractor that wasn’t going to use this plot of dirt and manure. He negotiated a deal with him for hauling it away for free. The man then turned around and sold it for $25,000! He made a chunk of money off manure that he got for free! Most people would have never taken the time to stop and take a second thought or look at it. He kept his eyes open for opportunity and found it. Are you keeping a watch out for opportunity? Or are you caught up and shutting it out?

The truth is that we see signs like this everyday. Opportunities are all around us. Some are there staring us in the face. Some aren’t so bold. How many opportunities have you passed up because you didn’t take the time to stop and think differently? How many decisions could you have made to truly build something great from an opportunity? Start looking at things from different angles. You never know when an opportunity could lead to something huge for you and your life.

Opportunities? They are all around us… There is power lying latent everywhere waiting for the observant eye to discover it. – Orison Swett Marden

The reason a lot of people do not recognize opportunity is because it usually goes around wearing overalls looking like hard work. -Thomas A. Edison

In my opinion a good opportunity is very much to not realize, but as long as we try there’s a way already know to go next. Also how clever we are in taking risks for that and we must beware for some people who also take advantage of our ignorance, we should be wise to do.

  2. One short visit and I have added you to my list of favorite bloggers. Thought-provoking and genuine. While I am about to make a major change in my life, I found your words: “How many opportunities have you passed up because you didn’t take the time to stop and think differently? How many decisions could you have made to truly build something great from an opportunity? Start looking at things from different angles. You never know when an opportunity could lead to something huge for you and your life.” very inspiring. I’ll be back to visit soon. Thanks for sharing!

What a great post! So true and I needed to be reminded-so, thank you. Sometimes it is so difficult to catch our mundane thinking and actually make the decision to shift our perception…but those times when we do? We do see gold…just like you said.
