This is me as batman as a kid! Ha.

A few days ago I was waiting on my car for an oil change when this kid came running around me making a buzzing noise pretending to be some kind of a spaceman on an epic journey. I wondered what that kid was thinking. What world had he dreamed up? Where was his mind taking him?

I asked myself: what happened to our imaginations? When we were kids you could give us a ruler and we could pretend we were pirates. Somewhere along the way we stopped and were crushed with a big fat dose of reality. Life happened. We get kids to feed. Jobs to work.

No more lands to conquer. No adversaries to fight. What happened to us? When did we lose the ability to imagine? Our power to visualize something not there? As we grow older our imaginations leave us. They get stuffed away in a closet in the backs of our minds and replaced with life. We forget how to play and create great new lands out of thin air. I wonder if this is why so few start businesses and go out on a limb in pursuit for their dreams. Perhaps they have forgotten how to imagine great distant lands in their minds. Obviously if we saw a grown man buzzing around pretending to fight pirates we would put him in a straight jacket. Quickly.

But what about the ability to imagine an idea or dream up a better world? Perhaps our loss of imagination keeps us from not seeing what isn’t there. Imagination is what lead to every great innovation, creation and revolution that was ever created in history. Our leaders had to see a better world through imagination. If you want to make a difference, you have to fight for your imagination. Bring it back. Let out that kid in you and dream up something incredible.

What are your thoughts?

Is Fear Paralyzing You?

http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/digg_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/reddit_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/stumbleupon_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/delicious_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/technorati_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/facebook_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/yahoobuzz_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/twitter_48.png

freddy_kruegerI want you to stop for a moment and ask yourself: What is fear?

Here is a great quote:

What is fear? It is absolutely nothing. It is a mental illusion. There is no reality behind it. It is to the sane adult what the ghost is to the child. There is not one single redeeming feature about fear or any of it’s numerous progeny. It is always, everywhere, an absolute curse. Although there is no reality in fear, no truth behind it, yet everywhere we see people who are slaves to this monster of the imagination. -OSM.

Fear is everywhere among us. Throughout life we are afraid of possible disappointments and mistakes we might make. We are afraid of what our enemies could do, afraid of potential poverty, afraid of what others will think, afraid of our parents, teachers and looking stupid to our peers. We are afraid of rules and regulations. We are afraid of failure. Ever since our childhood, we have grown up in a world of fear. Watch out for this, don’t touch that, you could get cut or burned. If we don’t do this, then something terrible is going to happen. Remember the panic and fear around Y2K? In many cases we are in a constant state of anxiety, paralyzed by fear.

Really stop and ask yourself: what is fear really? It is nothing more than the mere creations of our own imagination.

Fear is one of the leading causes for failure. Fear crushes our hopes, dreams and kills our courage. Fear grabs creativity by the throat and strangles it. Fear handicaps our individuality and ambitions. Many people out there are so fearful of failure or ridicule that they may fail that they never begin. How many of us are so handicapped by our own fear of failure that we rob ourselves of our future? I am good friends with a girl who is so scared her parents would disapprove of her that she would not change her major back in college. She is stuck in a career choice now that she despises, but is still too scared of them to switch. She is a grown woman! What kind of a life is that? She will go on throughout life miserable all because of fear.

If only we could remove our fear of failure from our society, imagine the innovation that could be within our grasp. Imagine the growth! Our world would jump forward leaps and bounds! No longer could dreams be held hostage by fear inside our imaginations, but rather set free for our heart’s ambition. We must conquer our fears if we want to move forward towards our goals.

Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt.– Shakespeare.
