Christmas at my house was always BIG. My mom went above and beyond to make things special for me and my sisters. We had decorations covering every room. You couldn’t move without seeing a Santa, fake snow or Rudolph (I snapped a few pictures of our house to show you want I mean). The decorations made it feel like the holidays, but what made Christmas special are the traditions we have every year. We have a lot but here are a few that stood out above the rest:

About a month or two before christmas, my mom would tell us to write out our Christmas want lists to Santa. On the back of the letter we would trace our hand, sign it and date it (I’ll tell you why in a minute). That night, we would put our letters in our “Christmas boxes” under the tree and an “elf would come to take them to Santa.” The elf would leave an ornament behind for us and to put on the tree. Then when we got our own christmas tree, we would have plenty of ornaments to cover it. Not too long ago, my mom brought out the old Santa letters to show us. They were incredibly funny to see what we wanted and really cool to see our hands grow over the years. Funny side note: I always signed mine with a title ever since I was little. David Bustle “the magnificent” or “boy genius” I actually spelled genius wrong. Ha. Check out the picture to the right to see what I mean.

Another tradition we had was our Christmas books. Each year my mom would buy a new christmas book to read on Christmas eve. That night we would build a big fire, drink coffee and hot chocolate and read the book as a family.

Another awesome Christmas tradition is spent with just me and my Grandmom. Every Christmas I go and grab a bottle of sparkling grape juice and head to my Grandmoms for a night. My Grandmom and I are pretty huge Chuck Norris fans. So we always end up watching a Chuck Norris marathon and drinking our bottle. It’s a special time for just me and her that I will always cherish and remember.

This year I found a cool thing you can easily do with your family: You can get a phone call from Santa. How fun is that! What a creative idea to do for your people you know! You can enter your kids/ friends/ family’s names, personalize the message a little and this will call them as “from Santa at the North Pole!” Check it out here. It’s really cool.

For me Christmas isn’t about the presents. I really enjoy the memories and the fun little things you do that are special. Don’t forget about your traditions. They are what make the holidays so great!

“What an enormous magnifier is tradition! How a thing grows in the human memory and in the human imagination, when love, worship, and all that lies in the human heart, is there to encourage it.” -Carlyle
