Fun Christmas Traditions At My House

Christmas at my house was always BIG. My mom went above and beyond to make things special for me and my sisters. We had decorations covering every room. You couldn’t move without seeing a Santa, fake snow or Rudolph (I snapped a few pictures of our house to show you want I mean). The decorations made it feel like the holidays, but what made Christmas special are the traditions we have every year. We have a lot but here are a few that stood out above the rest:

About a month or two before christmas, my mom would tell us to write out our Christmas want lists to Santa. On the back of the letter we would trace our hand, sign it and date it (I’ll tell you why in a minute). That night, we would put our letters in our “Christmas boxes” under the tree and an “elf would come to take them to Santa.” The elf would leave an ornament behind for us and to put on the tree. Then when we got our own christmas tree, we would have plenty of ornaments to cover it. Not too long ago, my mom brought out the old Santa letters to show us. They were incredibly funny to see what we wanted and really cool to see our hands grow over the years. Funny side note: I always signed mine with a title ever since I was little. David Bustle “the magnificent” or “boy genius” I actually spelled genius wrong. Ha. Check out the picture to the right to see what I mean.

Another tradition we had was our Christmas books. Each year my mom would buy a new christmas book to read on Christmas eve. That night we would build a big fire, drink coffee and hot chocolate and read the book as a family.

Another awesome Christmas tradition is spent with just me and my Grandmom. Every Christmas I go and grab a bottle of sparkling grape juice and head to my Grandmoms for a night. My Grandmom and I are pretty huge Chuck Norris fans. So we always end up watching a Chuck Norris marathon and drinking our bottle. It’s a special time for just me and her that I will always cherish and remember.

This year I found a cool thing you can easily do with your family: You can get a phone call from Santa. How fun is that! What a creative idea to do for your people you know! You can enter your kids/ friends/ family’s names, personalize the message a little and this will call them as “from Santa at the North Pole!” Check it out here. It’s really cool.

For me Christmas isn’t about the presents. I really enjoy the memories and the fun little things you do that are special. Don’t forget about your traditions. They are what make the holidays so great!

“What an enormous magnifier is tradition! How a thing grows in the human memory and in the human imagination, when love, worship, and all that lies in the human heart, is there to encourage it.” -Carlyle

ross-giantmanDenial of yourself is one of the saddest tragedies of our world today. We have millions of people out there that are holding themselves back by denying their extraordinary ability to accomplish something.

They deny who they are.
They deny who they could become.
They deny their future success.

Right now, there is someone somewhere holding a new invention, a new symphony, a new cure, a new book or a new business idea inside themselves that could revolutionize their industry. We have assistants that should be running companies. There are back up singers that should taking the front stage. However, their self doubt has held them back. They sabotage their success with internal statements like: “I couldn’t do that. I don’t have the education.” Or “I’m not good enough. There are thousands better than me.”

They have denied their inner giant. They have denied their ability. They have told themselves that success is for other people and not them.

You have untold talent right before you. It’s lingering inside of you. Right within your grasp. If you continue to think small, you will remain small. You are capable of doing great things. You have talent inside of you waiting to burst out and carry yourself into greatness. I truly believe that you can do something incredible, if you dedicate yourself to your success. Stop holding yourself back. Stop limiting your own supply.

You have the talent.
You have the knowledge.
You have the ability.

SO USE IT.

Are you denying your inner giant?

pasbrandx008370-reaping-what-you-soThere are two lessons that I have learned that has influenced me more than anything else. I learned them from two great speakers, Jim Rohn and Jack Canfield. The two lessons are:

#1: Take 100% responsibility for your life.
#2: You reap what you sow.

In his book, The Success Principals Jack writes:

One of the most pervasive myths in the American culture today is that we are entitled to a great life- that somehow somewhere, someone (certainly not us) is responsible for filling our lives with continual happiness, exciting career options, nurturing family time, and blissful personal relationships simply because we exist. But the real truth is that there is only one person responsible for the quality of life you live. That person is you.

You are either the key or the lock on to your success.

It amazes me just how different my life has been once I learned these two foundation principles. I learned that where I was at, was 100% my doing. It wasn’t my environment. It wasn’t my circumstances. It wasn’t the economy. IT WAS ME. When I took a step back and looked at the down and dirty truth, I found that I had created who and where I was in life. It was my efforts that determined my future.

Acceptance of what has happened, is the first step in overcoming any misfortune. — William Joyce.

Most of us have the tendency to blame everything but ourselves. “Oh, it’s the economy.” “My boss doesn’t pay me enough.” Or “My kid doesn’t come by enough.” It’s always everyone else’s fault and not our own. We never step back and see the real problem: OURSELVES. The truth is that we determine where we are and where we are going. We choose to live the way we do. There is always something more or extra we could have done. We could have banged on more doors rather than sitting around complaining. We could have worked harder and built a better product. We could have spent more time with our families. We could have dedicated more time to our craft than watching TV. There is always something else we can do to work on our success.

We have to stop blaming everything else and realize that WE alone are responsible for our results. Take responsibility for where you are. Know that you will get out of life what you put in.

angry-teacherI had a teacher once tell me: “Why can’t you just be normal and do the assignment the way it says to do it? You aren’t going to finish in time.” I never was much of your typical follow the directions student during my schooling. I often wanted to do something different. I would try and take an assignment that interested me and make it my own. Create a new experience and learn something that I cared about learning. Sometimes they came out incredible, and others were colossal failures. I may not have finished some projects exactly the way they were supposed to be done all the time and I may have had some belly flops, but the point was that I learned something out of it that was worth it. Every time I went my own way I created a new experience it has influenced me in some fashion. Wouldn’t it be better to do something that interested you that you could better yourself from? Wouldn’t that be better than just do something to pass the given requirements?

The purpose of education is to stimulate the creativity and the passions of the student body. I think we have gotten away from that. It’s not to herd and mold people into what society thinks is right. It’s to give them the knowledge so they can make their own path and discover the own abilities.

Why is it that in school they teach us to be normal? To punish us for not coloring within the lines? I think this type of thought is wrong in the development of our future leaders. I don’t think the goal of life is to “be normal.” When did being mediocre ever accomplish anything? When was anything great ever been created by following the rules? Every single one of our great leaders weren’t normal by any means. They were all abnormal. All of our innovations, buildings, ideas, inventions and creations were built out of creativity and from folks who didn’t want to be normal. Can you imagine Trump or Edison being taught to “be normal?” I don’t think we should teach our kids to be such lemmings.

How did the current education system really work out for you? Did you become exactly what you dreamed about being right out of the gate? Did you follow your passions? Or did you sacrifice your dreams and settle for mediocrity? I ask you: what is normal anyway and why is that the goal we should all be striving for? Getting up every single day, heading out to a job you hate, working for people you hate that never appreciate your efforts? It that normal? Is this what we should strive for? Or was it when you went against the norm and stepped out that you found your passion?

I get up every single day excited about what I do. I absolutely love my work. Most of the entrepreneurs I know are the exact same way. I work with the most amazing achievers out there. Some nights I can’t sleep because my mind is racing with new ideas for the next day. Had I followed the norm, I wouldn’t have found my passion.

We have been orientated all of our lives. I think it’s time for a disorientation.

Do You Have Stupid Rules?

http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/digg_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/reddit_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/stumbleupon_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/delicious_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/technorati_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/facebook_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/yahoobuzz_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/twitter_48.png

angry1Every business has rules. It uses them to make life easier and “run smoothly.” However, just about every business has stupid rules as well. Recently, I went to a restaurant that had only a few people eating there. I asked for a booth instead of a table. The hostess told me that the booths were sectioned off because they were low on staff.

What does that mean exactly?

What does it matter whether a server walks an extra 3 feet (literally) to serve me at a booth over a table? This is a stupid rule. Was it really worth it to start me out with a bad opinion of the restaurant by being uncomfortable over a few extra feet and a stupid rule? Here’s another one: I watched as a couple requested a specific server and were denied during a slow time. They ended up walking out of the restaurant. The hostess let them go! Had she just granted their request for the server they wanted they would have stayed. Is it worth the cost of losing a sale? Companies set “rules” to make operations run better but often end up hurting themselves in the process.

Think about your policies and determine if they are stupid and could be costing you sales. Are they more likely to make a customer upset rather than satisfied? Is it really worth potentially losing a customer for some stupid rule?

It’s Time To Swim Upstream

http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/digg_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/reddit_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/stumbleupon_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/delicious_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/technorati_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/facebook_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/yahoobuzz_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/twitter_48.png

riverIf you want to be successful in anything you must have constant education. You must never stop learning, researching and honing your individual craft and the study of success. Think of it like swimming upstream with a powerful river current against you. If you stop swimming, you are pushed back and only get further away from your goal of moving upstream. Entire industries can literally change overnight. New powerful strategies can be created from thin air.

If you are constantly learning about your trade and bettering yourself and your business, you can keep up. If you don’t, the river current will run you over and you will drown. Your mind and business needs constant nourishment to succeed. Read books and go to seminars. Network with others in your field. Constantly be learning and researching. Todays greatest minds have recorded their path to success in books. One of my favorite resources I personally use for this is success magazine. (No I am not making any money from them, this is strictly an endorsement from me because their magazine is probably one of the most power tools for success I have ever seen). Each month they put out a magazine and CD with inspiration, motivation and marketing advice. It’s incredible. Check it out at www.success.com. You can also find my personal library of books I read under my resources page.

What can you read right now that will help you on your path to greatness?

IMG_0074Time is one of your most precious assets in your arsenal to greatness. In business and life you need to find time to create, plan, and do in order to become a success. Sometimes in our hectic schedules, there are days when you just couldn’t get everything done.

One of the biggest reasons this happens is due to the constant noise that is bombarding us and sucking up our time. Noise like facebook, twitter, email, people, and T.V. steal your profits right out from under you. It’s not that these things are necessarily bad, but you must learn to safe guard your work time. Do you really need to know that on facebook Susie says she went to the gym? Do you really care that Timmy is twittering his every move? What is the point? Where does it take you? Is your life any better by knowing this?

Here’s a cool trick I learned from the legendary Lee Milteer (www.milteer.com), ask yourself: What Is The Profit In This? Lee taught me to question where I was spending my time and whether or not it brought me closer to my goals. Personally, I framed this statement and have it right next to my computer. Every time I start wasting time on facebook, it glares at me and helps keep me focused. I ask myself “what is the profit in this?” How much profit does answering that survey add to my bank account? What is the profit in having a meeting to determine when other meetings are going to be? Zero. Know how much your time is worth and use that figure to determine if you have time for Mafia Wars or to waste time with internet video.

Make Profits In 30 Seconds.

http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/digg_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/reddit_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/stumbleupon_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/delicious_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/technorati_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/facebook_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/yahoobuzz_48.png http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/twitter_48.png

Just about every book on marketing and sales talks about creating a 30 second commercial for your business. You need a better answer than, “I’m a consultant,” or “I work for so and so.” I agree with those books. You should have a 30 second commercial. I want to add a thought to this: why not teach it to your staff? They are asked almost daily what it is that they do. Why not get some free exposure out of it? You never know who they know or will lead you to. Your janitor or secretary may lead you to huge deals or sales. It sure does sound a whole lot better than, “Oh I work for so and so.”

Quoteworthy: Are You An Anchor Or A Motor?

There are two types of people– anchors and motors. You want to lose the anchors and get with the motors because the motors are going somewhere and are having more fun. The anchors just drag you down. — WYLAND
