It takes hard work. It takes an unshakable determination to succeed. I believe you must start with a dream, but most importantly, you must have action to move towards your dream. You cannot wait around for your dreams to somehow materialize. Hate to break it to you, but they never will without action from you. Without it, they are simply thoughts and pipe dreams. You must be willing to step up and put in the work that it is going to take to actually get there. I think that is why so few actually get where they want to go. They wait around for something to happen to them as if someone is just going to one day pop out of nowhere by and say: &#8220;Here you go!&#8221; then hand them their dream on a silver platter. It doesn&#8217;t work that way, yet that is the plan of so many. <strong>Average people dream of great accomplishments. Extraordinary people stay awake and do them. Dreams of bettering your world are just the beginning to your adventure. You have to learn to make progress and TAKE ACTION to accomplish your dreams. </strong></p>

There were some really interesting studies that showed that as people get older, they get less creative. Why does this happen? In my opinion, it happens becuase we live in a sea of &#8220;No&#8217;s.&#8221; As we grow up, the pressure is on to become &#8220;normal.&#8221; We are taught the notion of boundaries. We are taught the meaning of the word &#8220;no&#8221; all to well. At some point, we are told that we have to hang up superman&#8217;s cape and trade it for normalcy. We are told we can&#8217;t make a living following our dreams. It seems to me that all over society discourages us to stand up and be creative. </p>
<p>I think it&#8217;s time for a creative revolution in our world. We need more folks that aren&#8217;t afraid to raise their hands because they are too embarrassed at what others will say. We need to step up and take charge. <strong>We need to put a bullet through the forehead of mediocrity. </strong>We must teach our kids that it&#8217;s ok to follow our passions. That it is ok to be different. Creativity and passions should be celebrated, not discouraged. </p>
<p>If you look at our great leaders of today, just about every single one of them has the story where they came from an environment of people telling them they shouldn&#8217;t do what they were trying to do. Rarely do you ever hear of them having cheerleaders on the side saying, you can do it! Their creativity and passions were discouraged at just about every turn. If they had listened, we wouldn&#8217;t have the music, art, businesses, concepts and ideas of today. No innovation would occur. If you look at progression in our world, it comes from folks that dare to be different. That stand up and aren&#8217;t afraid to raise their hands. They come from people that push limits and follow what they think is right. They close their minds to the rest of the herd out there that discourage them. </p>
<p><strong>Imagine for a moment if people&#8217;s passions were encouraged. If our artists, businesses, leaders, achievers and doers were celebrated for their efforts from the beginning, rather than after or if they made it? What great advancements could happen to our world? What new products would be created? Imagine the advancements in all of the various fields out there. I think we need to stop this suppression of creativity. We live in a sea of &#8220;No&#8217;s.&#8221; We must build up those who dare to fight for their passions. It&#8217;s time we encourage each other to be great and do great work.<br />

They thought that it was time that the business owners &#8220;get what is coming to them,&#8221; that it was time they quit taking from those below them. </p>
<p>It was disheartening. They didn&#8217;t understand how the quality of their life was dependant on that of a business owner. Where would they be without their boss? You see, I believe that business owners are the most honorable ones out there. They are the great ones that are the motor of our world that advances us forward. Most people don&#8217;t understand the power behind that. Instead they blame and demonize them. Think of all the products, services and luxuries that you enjoy on a daily basis. All of those were once merely an idea inside one of our great one&#8217;s minds. It was made possible by them. </p>
<p>When you work for any company, you are not only paid your wage for your labor, but also for the productive genius behind the scenes that makes your job possible. I think most people forget the intellect that goes into creating and running a business. It takes the great work of the business owner who slaves and slaves in order to build the process and concept of their business.  It takes the money from the investor who risks losing it all on an idea that is unproven. It takes the engineer and scientists who design and come up with the technology for new worlds to be explored. It takes a lot of intellect that most people fail to even realize. Instead they are ungrateful. They blame. They feel &#8220;victimized by the man.&#8221; </p>
<p>Without our great ones where would the world be? It is because of the great entrepreneurs that our world has advanced as far as it had. Every idea or creation all stemmed from the productive genius of a business owner or inventor. Any person that is employed, has a job because a business owner created that job for them. They slaved, risked, beat incredible odds and failed until they managed to build something great that provided that job for you. Without the business owner they would live like third world countries do, fighting for every dime with little progression. It is because of our great ones that we are allowed to enjoy the quality of life that we do. They should not be damned, but rather thanked. Daily. </p>

<p><strong>I wish the world would wake up and realize who the real great ones are. They should be treated like the celebrities that they are. Their genius should be celebrated, not demonized. </strong></p>

		<title>Do You Downplay Your Talents?</title>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/baby-genius-psa.jpeg" alt="" title="baby-genius-psa" width="234" height="270" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1710" /></a>Do you remember that kid in high school you just flat out disliked because they made straight A&#8217;s? You know the one that was always writing the best papers and making all the intelligent observations. I remember him perfectly. Lets call them Jim. Jim always went above and beyond, always asking questions and making statements that would make the class longer and not let out on time. Frankly, Jim annoyed the majority of the class, including myself. I remember people saying things like: &#8220;Way to blow the curve, asshole.&#8221; They gave ole Jim a rough time for his intelligence. Eventually, Jim quit doing so well in school. I guess it was easier to not do as well and fit in, than to do great work and get made fun of for it. It was so silly, but Jim downplayed his talent. He allowed the world to mold him into less than he could become. </p>
<p>I wonder how many of us downplay our talents for fear of looking cocky or conceited. We are taught that modest is a virtue. In my opinion, modesty is a sad virtue and keeps people held down. I believe it robs us of our true potential. Everyone has some talent about them. Embrace it. Don&#8217;t ever downplay your talent to fit in with those around you. If you have a talent, blow the freaking doors off it. Show the world what you are made of. It is what make you, YOU. It&#8217;s what is special about you. Why should you hide what makes you great? Why hide the things that make you stand out? By downplaying your genius you are doing yourself a disservice. If you allow yourself to do less than you could you will not improve, you will stay the same or get worse. </p>
<p><strong>I&#8217;m not saying you should run around being a one upper type boasting that you think you are better than everyone. But I do believe you should be proud of your talent and genius. Don&#8217;t hide it or downplay it in order to fit in. </strong></p>

		<title>Why Settle In Life, Business Or Relationships?</title>

Perhaps a lack of conviction in our ability to succeed? Why do we allow ourselves to accept less than what we are worth? Is it that we believe that we do not deserve to have the best that there is in the world? </p>
<p>I saw something amazing today.  It was an old couple holding hands. A rare find today. There was something there though, which I couldn&#8217;t help but notice. The man looked like he still had the hots for her. And her, she looked like she was the happiest woman on the planet. They had this look in their eyes that was just incredible to see. Passion. Love. It made me smile. Driving home, I thought to myself, wow. Why don&#8217;t more people find relationships like that? I think in today&#8217;s world, people settle for a lot less. We settle for security. We stay in relationships when we have better prospects that could make us happier. We don&#8217;t leave a job when we hate it. We never start that business or act on our great ideas or opportunity. </p>
<p>Why choose to settle for something you don&#8217;t really want in the first place? At what point do we let go and justify something less than our true desires? <strong>It got me wondering, why is it that people don&#8217;t believe that they can have the best that there is in the world? </strong></p>
<p>We all have a choice. We can accept the status quo or be the ones to set the bar where we truly want. Every time we settle for less a piece of ourselves die with it. Our true desires are not fulfilled. You may learn to accept where you are, but inside you will always have a longing for more and it will slowly eat away at your soul until you act on it. </p>

<p>The most secure place on the planet is a prison cell, but the problem is that it is just that, a prison. You are behind bars, held back and aren’t free to reach your true desires. You won’t find that person that is truly right for you, you’ll settle for someone that doesn’t make you feel fully alive. You won’t start that business idea you had, and it will sit lonely locked away in your mind&#8217;s attic collecting dust. If our history&#8217;s great leaders had settled, would anything great ever been accomplished? </p>
<p>If you really want to be happy you can’t settle for less. Another great quote: &#8220;learn to say no to the good to allow room for the great.&#8221; Learn to not accept mediocrity and shoot for great heights. Don&#8217;t settle. Follow your heart. </p>
<p><strong>It is out there; you just have to have enough patience to find it.<br />

Where the past has such a firm grip upon the soul of them that it takes control of their life? It&#8217;s like they are dragging this massive weight behind them that is holding themselves back from moving forward. </p>
<p><strong>I am a firm believer that if you want to have a future, you must let go of the past. </strong></p>
<p>The past is a double edged sword. It can be a great thing and a terrible thing. In some senses, the past can give you experiences that can keep you from danger in the future. I&#8217;m not saying you should forget those. Learn from them. However, the past can also keep you from living a full happy life as well. Have you ever dealt with someone who has had a terrible unhealthy relationship? The past can take control of their life and hurt all of their future relationships by making people pay for other&#8217;s mistakes. <strong>We can be so worried about not letting the things that happened before, happen again, that we forget to live the life we have right now in front of us. Before we know it, we can look up and it&#8217;s over. </strong> Don&#8217;t be that person that one day realizes they have wasted years of their life due to the past having reign over them. It can be helpful, but it can also suck the life inside out of you. </p>
<p><strong>Don&#8217;t let the past keep you from having a future. It&#8217;s your choice if you give the past power over you. Yours and yours alone. You have the choice to build yourself up again and move on, or let it keep control over you. You can let the circumstances shape you or you can do the shaping.</strong></p>

		<title>They Will Fear Our Genius.</title>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/iStock_000003013231XSmall.jpg"><img src="http://davidbustle.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/iStock_000003013231XSmall-300x218.jpg" alt="" title="iStock_000003013231XSmall" width="300" height="218" class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-1507" /></a>Look at the great innovations, revolutionary ideas or talent from our history and you will find one commonality: they were all discouraged or ridiculed in some form or another before they became a success. Not one had the red carpet rolled out for them with a parade of fans encouraging them to go on. They all faced opposition and were often attacked. (Ask any entrepreneur, they all have their &#8220;you&#8217;ll never be able to&#8221; story.) Why do people do this? Fear. Fear of uncertainty. Fear of change. Fear of the unknown. Fear of a shift in power or relationships. </p>
<p>Get used to it. <strong>People will fear our genius. </strong>Those who are our world&#8217;s creators, that bring forth new ideas and push the envelope with their talents or ideas need to realize that society fears them. Why? In my opinion, because they were too weak or mediocre to pursue their own talents. So they attack others in this messed up sense of justification to make them feel better about themselves. </p>
<p>The sad truth is that many walk away from ideas or talents simply because others have discouraged it. They are not strong enough in their own convictions to see the fear behind the discouragement. They can&#8217;t see the underlying envy and jealousy. Why would you walk away because of a silly reason like a little discouragement? If you succeed, that changes things with those around you. They either can change with it or stay the same. The balance of power changes, then in order to justify it in their own minds that they are ok where they are, they attack others. Whether they admit it or not, they downplay other&#8217;s talent because of their own selfish reasons. </p>
<p><strong>Don&#8217;t sacrifice your talents and dreams simply because someone (who was mediocre in their own pursuits) disagreed with you or discouraged your passion. Do you think our history&#8217;s greats were worried about opinions of mediocre minds or efforts? No they were too concerned with what did matter: their creations on their path to greatness. Are you afraid of looking like a fool? What will really make you look foolish is if you become one of the attackers and start justifying yourself for where you are. </p>

You had to pick a topic you were interested in, find a mentor and create something with them in hopes of learning something out of it. It was a really neat project that I truly enjoyed and still use what I learned today (I think this is one thing every school should do). I have always been a huge fan of art and creativity, so I choose painting and a lady by the name of Jan Crouch to be my mentor. Jan Crouch was a painter from Asheville NC and was an incredible artist. It amazed me what she could do with a brush. She made it seem so simple. </p>
<p>Jan was different then most teachers as she was suffering from alzheimer&#8217;s disease at the time. So it was always an interesting time going there to learn from her. She would give me the same tour of her house and show me her paintings every time I went there never remembering I had been given it several times before. I wouldn&#8217;t tell her I had already seen them because I really enjoyed watching her tell the stories about them and the brightness in her eyes that came out from talking about her creations. It was always a treat for me to see such passion from the meaning behind the incredible works of art. Jan did an extremely cool painting of the Thomas Wolfe angel statue (pictured above) which was inspired by his book: Look Homeward, Angel. I will never forget Jan&#8217;s lessons on painting and passion. It was an inspiration. I use her lessons every time when I get a chance to stop and paint. This past week Jan passed on to a better place. </p>
<p><strong>Jan, you were a great teacher that I will never forget the lessons. Thank you so much for helping fuel one of my personal passions. </strong></p>

		<title>Permission To Stay Where You Are</title>

Or do they encourage you to be what you are truly capable of being? </strong></p>
<p>In my opinion, a real true friend is not someone who simply agrees with you. Or never tells you that you can be any better. Instead, a good friend encourages you to tap into your greatness and do what they know you can accomplish. I believe a true friend is someone that pushes you to follow your dreams and pursue your deepest passions. To become the best version of you possible. A friend is someone who is there to celebrate your victories as if they were their own and would expect the same in return for theirs. They are there for you when the world is caving in. They also tell you what you really need to hear when you need it, not necessarily what you want to hear. I believe a true friend is someone who will snap you back to reality and kick you in the tail when you need it most. </p>
<p>To be honest, I&#8217;d rather have one true friend like that then a hundred phony ones that don&#8217;t push me any day. What&#8217;s the point of a fake friend? Are they even a friend or simply an acquaintance? </p>
<p><strong>I believe there are many of us out there that give our friends permission to stay right where they are. To linger there lukewarm, never growing. </strong>Why do we do this? To be dead honest, it&#8217;s because many of us have become complacent in our own lives and if our friends grow, then it makes us &#8220;look bad.&#8221; It takes away that excuse we use for us not succeeding and becoming better ourselves. No longer can we say &#8220;well everyone else is the same, I&#8217;m not that bad.&#8221; We no longer have that comparison anymore to justify our lack of greatness in our minds. </p>

<p><strong>I challenge you to step out of that comfort zone and encourage those around you to become the best they can. Stop giving them the excuse to stay where they are. Let me be clear: I&#8217;m not saying run out there and judge everyone and start telling them they are a screwup. That&#8217;s a fast track way to lose all of your friends. Just don&#8217;t let them become complacent and settle when you know they can aspire to do great things. Encourage them that they can become incredible in their endeavors. Tell them when you know they are capable of doing something amazing. </strong></p>
